DGM was formed by 7 people in 2015 with the purpose of improving Deaf people's lives by bringing attention of the injustices to the public through rallies all over.  The first 50 state rally occured on May 4, 2016 with the second one happening on October 20, 2016.  An earlier rally happened in Washington D.C. in October 2015 with approximately 100-200 people present.  NAD president at the time, Rosenbaum, was there to cheer us on.

There have been other Deaf rallies before DGM was formed.  The most notable is Deaf President Now (DPN) that happened at Gallaudet University in March 1988.  Another large scale rally was reported in Minessota in the early 90s.  Other rallies unaffiliated with DGM have occurred including hunger strikes at WPSD (Western Pennsylvannia School for the Deaf in Pittsburg) and an superintendent outing at CSD (California School for the Deaf).  These rallies all have a common thread - to improve our Communication, Education and Jobs (CEJ) goals for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
